November 20: Join us for Ranee Henderson’s “Fending for Ourselves”

About once per month we feature another artist at our space. Through our TX2 Gallery, we showcase up-and-coming artists whose work conveys important messages for society. We also host events and workshops to educate and encourage people to make positive social impact.

Our first TX2 Gallery show with Mika Yokota in October was incredibly well-received, and so fun! Check out photos here.

For our upcoming TX2 Gallery show, we are delighted to present artist Ranee Henderson. Ranee tells compelling stories with her beautiful oil paintings, which contain rich textures that you simply MUST experience in person. “Fending for Ourselves” is about her experiences growing up with her sister in Nebraska, when they essentially raised each other. They survived off very unpalatable powdered milk provided by the government.

Ranee is an award-winning multi-disciplinary artist who has been featured at numerous exhibitions around the world, including New York, Los Angeles, Mexico City, and Canada. Her work has been featured on the cover of American Illustration, and has been included in The New Yorker, the LA Review of Books, and New American Paintings.

We’ve met so many fantastic (and some fantastically weird) people at the Melrose Trading Post these past few months!

As I mentioned in my last message to you, my frustrations in trying to break in to the corporate world led me to start TITO Art & Design. Although my aesthetic is apparently a bit too odd for the mainstream, I thought perhaps I would find a few of my people at MTP. As it turns out, there are a lot of us!

Shout out to our new friend and incredible illustrator, Marianna Fierro, who sent us this photo of her new TITO Blob table in her apartment.

Knowing that there is this community of forward-thinking people drives us to keep creating and sharing our creations with you. This is why we are in the process of finding our own space, so we can bring everyone together and celebrate the joys of art and design. Hello! Thank you for being among our very first supporters. You are with us at the beginning of what is shaping up to be an incredible journey.

I started TITO Art & Design after realizing I did not fit in with the corporate world that design school pushed me towards. I just wanted to make stuff that was fun, minimal with a touch of high design, a little weird and alien, but also practical and functional.

But could I really start my own business around this concept? After some nudging and pep talks from my husband Tristan, I decided to try selling at the Melrose Trading Post.

This first month has been amazing. I was surprised how well people responded to my work! It has been so great to meet everyone, and to be able to share my wacky and wonderful world with you all.
